Since 1926, the quetzal has been Latin America's most stable currency, experiencing only 8 depreciations against the dollar.
It has been the silent storyteller of Guatemala's journey, chronicling the nation's efforts, labor, and development through the images it has carried.
To commemorate its 100th anniversary, we decided to tell the story of Guatemala's last century, incorporating iconic elements that represent us in a unique new design, currently in circulation nationwide.
As a Guatemalan, am honored to have conceived, conceptualized, led the art direction, and successfully pitched this design to the Bank of Guatemala's board and write a powerful claim on it: Quetzal, a century of inspiring a nation.
We've given the quetzal a new face, but its soul remains the same: a symbol of Guatemala's enduring spirit.
This redesign is more than just a currency; it's a testament to our nation's journey and a beacon of hope for the future.
